But it makes up for this shortcoming by providing useful information about physical geographic research in India's neighboring countries like Nepal and Bangladesh. This book is written as a text for the students of Physical Geography at the University of Rajasthan. The book is an up-to-date account of physical geography, giving emphasis to the main themes of the subject with facts and figures illustrating them through graphs and photographs. The book is divided into three parts: 1) Introduction to Physical Geography; 2) Principles of Physical Geography; 3) Applications in Physical Geography. The author begins by discussing 'Physical Geography' as a research subject, one that has been influential over the last century. He discusses the various branches of geography—physical, human, social etc—and looks at their relationship with each other. The second part deals with the principles of physical geography, and includes a discussion on the field of environmental geography. The third section focuses on its application, looking at ways in which it has been used to study human settlement and human activities in different parts of the world, including South America, Japan and India. The illustrative material throughout is broad-based so as to include a wide range of materials from archives to fieldwork carried out by researchers. However, there are few additional sources referred to in this text so it is being recommended for use by university students rather than by upper level undergraduates or postgraduates without previous geographical experience. This text is authored by Savindra Singh, a senior lecturer (Professor) (retired) who worked as a Pesticide Evaluation Specialist at Maharashtra Agriculture University, Pune. He has authored several books, research papers and articles on Geography, Environmental Science and Public Health.
